MONTBLEU BRINGS MMA FIGHTS TO THE LAKE
South Lake Tahoe, NV Saturday, August 18th Montbleu Resort, Casino & Spa is teaming up with the WFC to present “MMA at the Lake,” featuring ten amateur MMA fights at the Montbleu Theatre in South Lake Tahoe, NV. Doors open at 7pm, fights start at 8pm

“We’re excited to bring MMA back to the lake. We’ve been working on this event with Montbleu, and PRE Entertainment for over a year and we are thrilled to partner with such a great property for this event.” said Matt McGovern, WFC.

WFC will showcase the up and coming talent of local and regional amateur MMA fighters. Headlining the show will be South Lake’s own Ryan McCarthy. Ryan is coming off a string of victories, including a title win over Sean Shamrock, the son of UFC Legend, Ken Shamrock.

“Coming off a title win and now having the opportunity to fight in front of my home town fans here in South Lake in unbelievable! Come August 18th, I will be ready to put on a show!”

In a special attraction JJ Torres, the son of local World Champion Juan Torres, will be making his MMA debut, in the same theatre as his dad fought in, in 1995.

“I’d like to thank Matt McGovern and Montbleu for the opportunity to start my career in front of all of our family and friends!” said JJ Torres.

The Torres family called South Lake Tahoe home for over 20 years, where they groomed three World Champions: Hector, Alejandro, and JJ’s father, Juan and the hope JJ follows in their footsteps.

“I am honored to bring JJ back to South Lake to continue our families fighting legacy! Win, Lose, or Draw we plan on putting on a show!” said, Juan Torres.

Also featured on “MMA at the Lake,” are locals Paul Hubbell, and Andreli Lomibao.

The World Championship Fighting Event at Montbleu Casino and Spa was non stop MMA action from start to finish. Ryan Mccarthy (5-1) won by TKO as he full mounted and “ground and pounded” Christian Cardona (2-4). The Escobar Training Grounds crew was on hand as the local favorite made his impression felt.

The event was so hyped that even Nevada’s secretary of state, Ross Miller, decided to show up…as a fighter! In his debut, and final, match the 36 year old politician showed his power as he defeated Jamal Williams (0-2) with a solid kick to the mid section followed by a devastating punch. His encouraging words to “Get out and vote” were well received as well.

Representing throughout the night were fighters out of Juan Torres(6X Kickboxing Champion) Gym. Although 2 out of 3 fighters were defeated, the fighters fought great fights and made for an exciting night of TKO’s and submissions.

Thanks to all the fighters, Montbleu Casino and Spa, all Training Grounds, and everyone who came out to make this one badass MMA event.
